I was born and raised on a family farm in Georgia.

From a young age, I raised cattle, cared for our horses, and even had a brief venture in raising pigs. During this time, I developed a love of animals and a strong work ethic. The highlight of each day was finishing my chores so I could ride. By 9 or 10 years old, most of my days were spent riding and working cattle. I gained a lot of knowledge and experience in those years, but didn’t realize the value of it until years later.

By my late teens I had started several colts, and other people started asking me to ride their horses, too.

EARLY YEARS

Being self-taught, I knew there was room for improvement in my skills. I also knew that this self-awareness was a step in the right direction, but I wasn’t sure where to go next. I continued like this through the years, continuing to self-teach and learn (mostly from the horses), and I watched and listened to anyone who seemed like they might have insight.

I learned some good stuff from people, and I learned some bad stuff from people. Nothing ever seemed quite right, though. I kept telling myself there had to be a better way!

SELF TEACHING

I think I first heard of this “more practical style” of horsemanship in the early 1990's. I began reading about a handful of "clinicians" traveling around teaching people a “better way to get their horses respectful and responsive."  I had never heard of this before, so I set out to watch some of these "clinicians" at work.

To this day, I have never looked back.

After three years of riding under one of the best horsemen in the business, Peter Campbell, I knew I had found what I was looking for.

DISCOVERING HORSEMANSHIP

Over the years I have "cowboyed" in Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Nevada, and Wyoming. I have also managed a cow / calf operation in Georgia. I have used horses in all phases of ranch work and have been working with horses full-time for over 30 years.

After starting hundreds of colts and working with countless “problem horses”, it still amazes me how quickly and easily the horse– regardless of breed–is able to understand what we are asking when we communicate with the horse in a way in which it can understand.

CAREER EXPERIENCE

All people, regardless of experience level or discipline, can benefit from improving their relationship with their horse. This can be achieved by better understanding:

  • how the horse thinks and feels, and why it responds the way it does to certain stimuli,

  • methods for altering the horse’s response to that stimuli, and

  • the horse’s body positioning, especially where the feet are.

With a range of topic-specific clinics and one-on-one training opportunities, Scott’s unique approach to horsemanship provides you with the tools you need to achieve these learning goals.

A Tailored Approach to Horsemanship

Clear Communication

We cannot communicate with our horses without understanding what we’re asking of them. Scott goes the extra mile to make sure that his clients understand what they’re doing and why they’re doing it.

CORE VALUES

Patience

As with his own horses, Scott spends the time it takes to help solve his clients’ problems. He watches his clients ride and listens attentively to their questions and concerns so that he can deliver the best possible instruction.

Accessibility

Accessibility shouldn’t negate professional-grade experiences. Scott delivers high-quality, knowledgeable instruction without sacrificing the approachability of his process.

Life-long Learning

Every new horse and every new client brings a unique learning opportunity. We believe that education is a life-long journey.
